The AWB prefix 459 uniquely identifies RwandAir as the issuing carrier, ensuring proper routing through their cargo network. The 7-digit serial number is the unique shipment identifier assigned by RwandAir. The final digit is a check digit calculated using the mod-7 method: the serial number is divided by 7 and the remainder becomes the check digit, which helps validate the AWB number and prevents data entry errors.

RwandAir transports live animals under the IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR), which govern container, ventilation, and species-specific handling requirements for livestock, day-old chicks, zoo animals, household pets, and laboratory animals. Bookings require species-specific documentation and approved containers; book through the cargo team with at least 48 hours notice.
